Vanden High seniors Rayonni Mack and Joia Armstrong have earned college basketball scholarships.
Mack, a defensive wizard who can also score from close in or far out, will be playing ball for Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Ore. The 5-foot-3 point guard averaged 8.7 points, 3.2 assists, 3.8 rebounds and a remarkable 5.8 steals per game. She also nailed 34 three-pointers in 26 games.
For the second year in a row, Mack was named the Most Valuable Player of the Monticello Empire League.
Armstrong, a 6-1 post player who is particularly tough defensively and on the boards, has committed to CSU Stanislaus. She was also an offensive threat, averaging 11.1 points per game to go along with her 7.6 rebounds per contest. Armstrong was named first-team All-MEL.
